How to Lay Out Foam in a Rifle Case

A good rifle case layout keeps every item from touching another item or the case wall. With reconfigurable RAGAR foam you build the layout by moving blocks instead of cutting, so it is easy to get right and easy to change later.

1. Start with the rifle

Lay the rifle on the foam with the scope facing up and the muzzle toward a corner. Leave a full block of foam between the rifle and each wall of the case.

2. Remove blocks under the rifle

Lift out the blocks under the rifle's outline so it sits into the foam rather than on top of it. The remaining blocks around it become the walls that stop it shifting.

3. Add magazines and accessories

Place magazines, a bipod or tools in the open spaces, each in its own pocket. Keep heavy items away from the scope.

4. Check the fit, then close the lid

Tilt the case gently: nothing should slide. If something moves, return a block beside it. The lid foam holds everything down once the case is closed.

Which insert for your rifle case?

Rifle-length RAGAR inserts come in 35.75", 41.75", 46" and 50.5" lengths (13.5" wide) – see the case foam size chart for Pelican and Apache models, or hard rifle cases with RAGAR foam for a case and insert together.
